“I love combining my different backgrounds and taking my knowledge to the next level. Challenging what I know by constantly changing materials, which has brought me to discover and expand what I do.”

Introduction

Inspiring, innovative and out of the box is the work of Ximena Escobar.
Her graphic design background, MA in textile Futures and a lifetime of illustrating have made the work of this Central Saint Martins graduate into a blend of backgrounds, art disciplines and an endless world of possibilities.

A great passion for colour and illustration, mixed with her love of food has brought her to experiment and develop different techniques that involve changing the common look on materials and surfaces, replacing paper with fabric or even food. Her work in Food and the Art of Happiness is the result of the research on the evolution and current eating habits.

Food and the Art of Happiness

The way we eat. Changing consumption patterns through textile and surface design. Eating in our culture has become feeding, as we are no longer fully aware of, and have any real say in, what we actually eat. I am trying to improve this situation by bringing back the traditions and rituals of eating, thus creating a proper atmosphere to eat. Using the tablecloth as my starting point, I have redefined it, adapted it to the new ritual of the meal, creating a new option for take-away food. While I can’t change the nature of our eating habits, especially the time we spend eating, I can revolutionize the eating experience. My packaging makes you more aware of your food; it makes you enjoy it and hopefully have a better quality time.
